Encounters: The Conference is a forum where publicly-engaged research meets practice. At the event students, staff, faculty, members of public institutions and the community at large will explore various dialogic modes of engagement and learn how they can bring such practices to their own settings. In particular, the conference will bring together participants to experience the power of UConn’s own unique dialogue model and learn how to run Encounters anywhere and everywhere. Attendees will experience one of four Encounters in the morning, learn how to create and run an Encounter in our How-to Workshop, and take part in a broader, concluding conversation about public dialogue with experts around the country.

About Encounters
The Hartford History Center at Hartford Public LibraryThe Amistad Center for Art & Culture, the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, and UConn Humanities Institute -UCHI formed a community engagement partnership to present Encounters, a series focused on encouraging informed and informal conversations about issues that affect our lives. The aim is to strengthen our ability to know ourselves, and to develop a forum for respectful and challenging dialogue.
